Photos: Anytime You Buy Fairly Used Phone, You Could Be Buying Your Way To Prison

Read this important notice shared by Malik Nasir, to warn Nigerians about the danger of buying unverified fairly used phones and gadgets which could land them in prison.

Any time you buy that fairly or London used phone, you could be buying your way to prison. Stolen phones are now packaged or disguised as London or fairly used phones. Most of the phones were collected at gun-point or by robbers, stolen in traffic, snatched vehicles and bags, pickpocketed etc.

Some of the disguised London or fairly used phones carry murder cases, particularly, where the true owners were murdered.

Several of such reported cases of stolen phones come from Oshodi, Mile 2, Mile 12, Mushin e.tc.

These phones are mostly without packs and chargers.

Each time you buy used phone, insist on the source and get your receipt. Please, keep it. That could be your saviour when the law enforcement agents tracked the phone to you because it might be difficult getting those that sold it to you.

Note that, each time you buy that unverified fairly or London used phone, you are helping to keep robbers and criminals in business.

As soon as the robbers and criminals get their victims' phones, they are moved to Computer Village, Mushin and other markets where they are made to look like London or Fairly Used Phones.

Okada riders help Nigeria’s economy – Amaechi

Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has said that motorcycles and tricycles should not be banned nationwide because doing so would affect the nation’s economy negatively.

Amaechi said this on Tuesday in Abuja at the celebration of the national day of Amalgamated Commercial Tricycle and Motorcycle Owners, Repairers and Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN).

The minister advised state governments not to ban commercial cyclists but train them to reduce their recklessness on the road and ensure strict compliance with rules and regulations.

“I don’t think we should ban Okada because if we do, it will affect the economy; they only need to be trained to obey rules and regulations.

“The issue of security, safety and regulation should be dealt with at the state level; state governments should train Okada riders,’’ Amaechi said.

He urged the operators avoid recklessness and obey traffic rules and regulations in order to reduce the rate of accidents.

According to him, commercial cyclists play vital roles in the transportation sector, especially in transporting agricultural produce where roads are not easily accessible.

“We know you play a vital role in the economy: Not all buses, taxis can access our roads for agricultural purposes; a lot of Nigerians depend on you because your services are cheap.

“The economy cannot only grow through white collar jobs; everybody doesn’t need to depend on government and what you have done is to be self-employed to feed yourselves,’’ the minister said.
Shehu Babangida, National President of ACOMORAN, said that the day was an annual event designed to celebrate the informal sector in Nigeria.

He said the association’s 12 million membership had massively reduced the rate of unemployment and criminality in the country by engaging vulnerable youths.

The ACOMORAN president thanked the minister and former Zamfara governor, Senator Sani Yerima, as well as other dignitaries, for gracing the occasion.

Dele Alli Dad Reveals He Paid N10 Million Every Year For Spurs Star To Attend Private School In Nigeria

Dele Alli’s father, Kehinde Alli, has pleaded with the Tottenham Hotspur sensation to let him back into his life.

It has come to light that multi-millionaire Kehinde paid school fees pegged at 20,000 pounds per annum (approximately N10 million using the unofficial rate) when Dele relocated to Lagos to join his dad.

While in Lagos, the England star lived a comfortable life, with three maids at his beck and call, before moving with his father to Houston, United States.

“Not being able to see or speak to him hurts a lot. Myself and his brothers watch all his games on TV and they ask me, ‘Why won’t he see us?” Kehinde told the online edition of The Sunday Mirror.

“Dele has apparently told his sister I was never there for him growing up, but I can’t understand that. ”

He added : “He lived with me for years and I have always been there for him both emotionally and financially.

“I just want to be here for him and for him to know that I love him.”

Kehinde met Dele Alli’s mom, Denise, while he was studying at De Montfort University.

Ponzi scheme: SEC shuts illegal finance scheme

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has sealed the premises of Yuan Dong (YDEC), an illegal finance company that entices investors with juicy but phoney rewards on investments.

The Commission has also arrested operators of the scheme, in a move aimed at protecting investors from predators in the capital market.

According to SEC’s spokesman, Naif Abdussalam, the parastatal conducted an investigation into the activities of YEDC and findings showed its operations constituted a breach of the Investment and Securities Act (ISA), 2007.

The company, Abdussalam noted, parades itself as an investment company thereby extending invitations to unsuspecting Nigerians to subscribe to a scheme identified as a Resources Investment Account.

“Investments in the scheme range from a minimum deposit of N10,000 to a maximum deposit of N240, 000.

“The investment period of the scheme is pegged at a minimum of 30 working days to a maximum period of 10 months with offer of interest rates on short and medium term basis, which include promise of a daily profit of N80.00 and N2,400 depending on the category of investment”.

He further disclosed that the company also entices its customers with payment of bonuses should they convince more investors to invest in the scheme.

“Furthermore it was discovered that contrary to their supposed existence in over 20 locations across the country, the company only has functional offices in Asaba, Kano and Abuja. The promoters of these illegal operations have been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force and are undergoing interrogation.

“Consequently, pursuant to the Commission’s non tolerance policy of unhealthy practices in the market, the general public is hereby informed that in exercise of its powers enshrined in Section 13 (w) of the ISA 2007, the Commission “Sealed Up” the premises of the company on Thursday, February 23, 2017. This action became necessary to completely put an end to the unlawful activities of the company against unsuspecting investors” he stated.

The SEC spokesman added the YDEC was not licensed to carry out investment business of any sort, even as he warned the investing public not to patronise the company to avoid unpalatable consequences.

“We hereby reiterate our commitment to sanitise and rid the Nigerian capital market of all illegal operators. The investing public is however advised to exercise due diligence and caution in the course of making investment decisions. Valid licenses of lawful operators can be obtained on the Commission’s website; members of the public are advised to confirm the licenses of firms they intend to carry investment activities with”, Abdussalam said.

Recall that both the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and SEC warned investing public over the MMM ponzi scheme before it crashed last December.

CBN Assures Nigerians, Investors of Exchange Rate Stability

Basking in the euphoria of the appreciation recorded by the naira last week, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has restated its commitment to exchange rate stability.

Speaking at the Guaranty Trust Bank Plc’s 2017 non-oil export workshop held in Lagos at the weekend, the Deputy Director Trade and Exchange Department of the CBN, Olu Vincent urged Nigerians to continue to support public policies.

He further stated that measures had been put in place to support businesses in the country, stimulate growth and grow the economy. Olu called on importers to ensure that the country benefits from what they are importing.

He said: “We (CBN) are going to do more to stabilise the value of the naira so that everybody is happy. The present government is trying to ensure that we consume what we produce locally.”

Reacting to an earlier appeal by an exporter for the federal government not to restore the export expansion grant (EEg), Vincent, said there was pressure on federal government to restore the EEG. According to him, although the CBN was against because it was being abused, but the central bank does not have the powers to prosecute.

Vincent said the federal government had disclosed plan to reintroduce the EEG. He assured the exporters that the CBN was committed to supporting their businesses.

The event which was organised by the GTBank brought together some of its key exporters to dialogue on issues affecting trade, forex and export activities, thereby providing sustainable headway for the exporters.

“Last year at the beginning of this crisis, the Governor of the CBN, Mr. Godwin Emefiele had a meeting with the exporters in Lagos. At the meeting, we discussed issues bothering on remittances, volatility in exchange rate and other issues. “Sadly, there was no sincerity of purpose amongst the people that came for that meeting. But today we can see some level of sincerity and discourse,” Vincent said.

“About 15 years ago, if you were an exporter and you didn’t repatriate your export proceeds based foreign exchange embargo, people started having the feeling that we were killing businesses.

“We decided that for the exporter, there must be Know-Your Customer (KYC) by the bank. The bank must know the account owner. We decided to shift the responsibility to commercial banks who know much of their own to make sure that the business keeps going.

Funds don’t come back to us. There are people that export with the intentions of not bringing back the funds to the country.”

He explained that under the new export regulation, if an exporter exports and doesn’t repatriate export proceed to the bank where the individual transacting business with, the bank would be sanctioned by the CBN, adding that the customer has a responsibility of bringing back the export proceed, therefore in order for the banks to accommodate the penalty from the banks they need to create a pool whereby until you repatriate the export proceeds you will not have access to the money.

Vincent stressed that the bank was supposed to know the customer very, because if the customer doesn’t bring back the export proceed, the bank would be sanctioned, while urging the bank to devise strategies to prevent them from incurring unnecessary loss.

Earlier, the Chief Executive Officer, Fullmark Commodity Limited, one of the leading commodities trading companies in the country, Sriram Venrateswaran advised the federal government not to restore the EEG.

Venrateswaran alleged that the EEG was abused by a lot of exporters in the country when it was operational, saying that a lot of companies that were not in the export business were actually collecting the grant.

This, according to him affected general exporters who could not get full value.

Furthermore, he alleged that most exporters joined the trade because they were getting 30 per cent grant from the federal government.

He however stressed the need for the federal government to fix the country’s infrastructure to stimulate economic activities.

An operative of DSS, Mr Tony Opuiyo, said in a statement that the items were seized in Abuja on Friday.

He said the items were recovered at the property of Dunes Investment and Global Properties Ltd, located at No 44 Aguiyi Ironsi Way, Maitama, Abuja.

He listed the items as Glock pistol with two magazines and 29 rounds of ammunition, Mini-Uzi with two magazines containing 10 rounds and four rounds as well as 42 extra rounds of ammunition contained in a pack.

Others are one AK-47, 21 Certificates of Occupancy, one offer of Statutory Right of Occupancy, 23 luxury designer watches and 45 keys to various exotic cars.

He said that the items were stashed in the boots of cars parked at the property, particularly a Mercedes Benz S550 (BWR 135AH), and Masarati 4.7 (BWR 207 AJ), which had been confiscated.

Opuiyo said following the discovery and further investigation, the Service had invited Suswam, who was presently helping in the investigations.

He warned that the Service would no longer tolerate any acts of lawlessness by those who ought to be law abiding and responsible citizens.

“The Service has also observed with total dismay the inciting utterances of some political actors whose activities heat up the polity,” he said.

He said that the Service would not hesitate to go after anyone who engaged in acts capable of causing a breach of peace.

Air Force bombs Boko Haram on Mandara Mountain

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jet has struck Boko Haram insurgents hiding at Tagoshe/Mandara Mountain, NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Group Capt. Ayodele Famuyiwa said.

Famuyiwa said that intelligence report by sister surface forces indicated that remnants of fleeing insurgents were gathered at the location, about 10 kms Southwest of Gwoza in northern Borno state.

“This report was confirmed by NAF Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft before combat platforms were called in to strike the location.

“Follow-up battle damage assessment confirmed that the air attack was successful as shown by the enclosed declassified footage of the operation,” he said.

NAF had in the past few weeks been bombarding remnants of the insurgents’ locations and hideouts in the North-East, especially in northern part of Borno State.

Morocco seeks to join ECOWAS

Morocco, a north African country, has officially requested to join the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) as a full member.

According to APA, the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation issued a statement on the plan to join the 15-member West African bloc.

The kingdom of Morocco has informed Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of Liberia who is the current chair of ECOWAS of “its interest to join the regional grouping as a full member” a statement from the ministry said.

This request is in line with provisions of ECOWAS founding treaty and in full satisfaction of its membership criteria, it asserted.

According to Morocco, its move comes “to crown the strong political, human, historical, religious and economic ties at all levels with ECOWAS member countries”.

It said these links were reinforced over the last few years, through the king’s 23 visits to 11 countries in the region.

The statement said these visits were crowned by the signing of several hundred agreements, which gave a “strong” impetus to bilateral cooperation with the 15 member countries of the regional bloc.

Morocco also maintains institutional relations with ECOWAS, through an observer status, which has been in place for several years.

Morocco has participated in several meetings of the organization and has contributed to its activities, particularly in areas relating to peace and stability, the statement added.

The desire to join ECOWAS is also part of the royal vision for regional integration, as a key to Africa’s economic take-off, and is in line with the African policy of King Mohammed VI, reflected by the return of the kingdom to the African Union (AU), the statement concluded.

The country was recently re-admitted into the African Union (AU) after decades of voluntary withdrawal from the continental body.

The country embarked on diplomatic shuttles to many African countries, including Nigeria and Senegal to mend sour relations and to seek support of the countries for its admittance into AU.
